DOMA was a massive mistake on the part of Congress. Morality aside, legislators are isolating what has already been shown to be a significant voting segment of the public: the LGBT community and its allies. I’m not naïve enough to believe that an ethical appeal works with most politicians, but they should be getting the idea now that it’s bad for their careers to piss off an important voting group.
